Pepper Place Market is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and the first Saturday of the season started today. I ran down there first thing to stop by Jones Valley Urban Farm's booth (which of course was so busy I didn't get a chance to wave down my friends), got some lettuce from Snow's Bend Farm, English Peas from Henke Farm, eggs from Owl's Hollow Farm, and bread from Continental Bakery. We've got a lot to be proud of here in the 'Ham and it is up to us to keep all of our choices up and running: Farmers' Market on Finley Avenue, East Lake Farmers' Market, Mt. Laurel's Farmers' Market, Pepper Place Market, and all of our CSA's available for pick-up and/or delivery.
A couple of friends have asked me where they can find farmers closer to where they live (shout out to Heather P) and I'm directing them to Eating Alabama's farm locator. It's super helpful and gives great info.
Now if we can just get the rain to let up (I'm a fan of rain and all, but it sure would be helpful to be able to get folks at the local events and at the local markets), we'll be good to go. So in the spirit of all things green, go forth in your raincoat! Take an umbrella. Do whatever you have to do to support these awesome folks who got up at 4:30 am this morning to bring you fresh produce. It's the least we can do!
Happy Saturday to y'all!
